The Association of Veteran Surfers is a non-profit,
volunteer-based incorporated association founded by current and ex-serving
military veterans.
The Mission of AVS is to build a strong veteran community,
creating a positive change in veteran lives through ‘Ocean Therapy’, surfing,
and mateship, thereby enhancing the mental and physical well-being of its
members.
Through the concept of “Connected through Surfing”, AVS’s aim is
to offer a supportive environment and network for those veterans who are
suffering from mental illness, PTSD, stress, anxiety and depression, or who
may have recently transitioned from military service and are experiencing
isolation. This also includes opportunities for those who have suffered
physically as a result of their service by offering access to adaptive surfing
techniques and equipment, coaching, and other support mechanisms such
as clinicians with experience treating veterans.
