Funds raised will support young mums and their babies in the Small Steps live-in parenting and life skills program run by Hobart City Mission.
Small Steps:
- Supports young mums who are at risk of homelessness or having their infants removed into state care due to lack of support and appropriate accommodation.
- Provides accommodation in 12 units with 24/7 on-site care for up to two years.
- Teaches skills for independent living in the community, improves confidence and employablity levels.
- Builds healthy mother-child bonds and relationships.
In 2022 the raffle raised $2,500 and WITH Tas added a further $500 to purchase large capacity dryers which were welcomed with open arms by the young mums. They could finally get all their washing dried in one go!
This year we're aiming for $3,000 to buy lots of fresh air .... 12 screen doors to get the fresh air in, the bugs out and keep the toddlers safe inside too. We all know how important that breath of fresh air can be for our physical and mental health. These young women and their kids, who are part of our future too, certainly deserve it during a challenging, life-changing time.
Funds raised will be presented to Small Steps on completion of the raffle, however some funds may be released earlier if enough is raised to buy a number of doors for installation in time for Christmas. The balance will be presented to Small Steps following the final draw.
Drawn at the WITH Tas Christmas Function on 14 December, 2023 (see withtas.com/events for details).
